Almost 500 pupils and their parents have visited the social event „Mantinieks” at the shopping center „Domina.” More than 2800 textbooks and different office supplies have been brought in for exchange or as donations. Approximately 1700 books and other school items were given for exchange.

The shopping center „Domina” organizes an exchange place for school items for 2 years already and this project is being implemented in cooperation with the Riga City Council Welfare department and the Latvia Red Cross. As organizers of the event have noticed, there is especially high demand on textbooks in foreign languages, geographic atlases, high school textbooks as well as textbooks for minority pupils. Visitors of the „Mantinieks” are interested also in chance to exchange school bags, exercise-books, drawing albums and other office supplies.

The exchange place for school items „Mantinieks” will be opened till 5 September. Its essence is to create a place for present and future pupils to fill their school bags – to bring items for pupils and students to the shopping center „Domina”, which are not needed anymore, and exchange them for necessary items, which has been brought to the „Mantinieks” by other pupils, their parents, entrepreneurs, instances and NGOs. However, an exchange is not mandatory and items can be donated as well.

Items left after the 5 September will be given to the Latvia Red Cross, which will distribute it further to schools, orphanages and families, which lack finances to prepare for a school.
